Life in a Day

On July 24, 2010, thousands of people around the world took part in a Life in a Day, a historic cinematic experiment to document a single day on earth. Over 80,000 clips (and more than 4500 hours of footage) were submitted, of which, Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald and a team of editors whittled down into a 90-minute documentary film that gives "an honest and inspiring glimpse of our world". In the clip below, Macdonald requests video clips from people around the globe.

I remember hearing about this a few days before the 24th and am super excited to check out the live broadcast from the 2011 Sundance Film Festival on January 27th (5pm PST). I love the concept of capturing a portrait of the world in a day. Check it out here!

Lyrics to remember...

Reach out you point a finger
And touch the globe
Spin around and where it stops
You've got to pack your bags and go

Land in the Mohave Desert
Sing for the sun

Three's too many when you're playing for an audience of one
Two's too busy when you're playing for an audience of one
One is the only way
Playing for an audience of one

Falling Garden

Today I was inspired by photos of this incredible art installation by Gerda Steiner and Jörg Lenzlinger. Falling Garden was built inside the San Staë Church on the Canale Grande in honoro of the 50th Biennial of Venice. It is like something out of a dream and gives me a little glimmer of hope on a dreary day like today that spring and colour and sunshine will grace us with their presence in the not too distant future. Here's to hoping.

Epiphanie

Most camera bags sport functional rather than flattering designs. For those of you who don't want to tote around the predictable, geeky black canvas bag, Epiphanie offers a stylish alternative. I love that these bags are designed to safely and functionally transport your gear but disguise as a fashionable bag that you won't feel is a burden to lug around town.

Watch your step

Clearly this person does not drink.

Lyrics to remember...

Turn the light out say goodnight
no thinking for a little while
lets not try to figure out everything at once
It’s hard to keep track of you falling through the sky
we’re half-awake in a fake empire
we’re half-awake in a fake empire

They say that life isn't black and white...

...but pictures like these makes me wish it was! Those Swedes sure know how to embody great design. This house may or may not be me...in house form. (via this is glamorous)

Starbucks - the next chapter

Nearly forty years ago, in a small retail space in Seattle's Pike Place Market, Starbucks began a journey that would lead to a top spot on the list of coffee roasters and retailers around the world and a large hole in my pocket...I love my lattes a little too much!

In anticipation of their 40 year anniversary this spring, Starbucks announced a small but meaningful update to their brand identity which their CEO Howard S. says will "ensure that the Starbucks brand continues to embrace [their] heritage in ways that are true to [their] core values and that also ensure [they] remain relevant and poised for future growth".

I always have a difficult time with change, especially to those things I hold near and dear to my heart, but nostalgia aside, I think I like the new look. I love that they found their creative answer in simplicity. What do you think?

Going to the chapel...

Happy New Year all! I hope that you had an amazing Christmas spent with the ones you love.

I would like to dedicate my first post of 2011 to someone I love. Miss Peta Lewis (aka G-Unit) marries the man of her dreams today. Peta - I am so thrilled for you and Matt and have no doubt in my mind that you will make the most stunning bride. I wish more than anything that I could have been by your side on this important day but I raise my glass from across the seas and wish you both a magical day and an eternity of love and happiness together. Cheers to one of my bestests! Love you. xoxo
