The Future Mapping Company

The Future Mapping Company has revolutionised the traditional wall map. Having been both inspired by his background in colour-forecasting and simultaneously dulled by the pastel shades of coloured wall maps, Marcus Kirby set out to combine the alluring integrity of maps with his other love - design. These maps demand central wall hanging space. I love their use of colour and love the idea of using a modern, forward looking map in a contemporary space.

d a c e

Dace Moore is a local BC girl who launched her clothing line d a c e in Spring 2002. From the start of Dace's career her designs have been featured in group shows and applauded by the media, but with the growing success of her company, she is now gaining international attention. I love the sense of classic femininity her designs convey. These are a few of my favourite looks. I especially love the Carel shorts.

Blik

A friend of mine directed me to Blik, a company based out of sunny Venice, CA and the world's first removable wall graphics company. Looking to end the tyranny of limited options for wall coverings (paint or wallpaper), Scott Flora and Jerinne Neils decided to do something about it. That something was Blik.

They have hundreds of different wall graphics but have recently launched three new graphics from gaming legend, Atari and an eCity wall graphic from the "Godfathers of Pixel", eBoy. Atari presents Asteroids, Centipede and Pong and eBoy brings Tokyo eCity straight to your walls. The brands share a pixelated sense of fun that is sure to resonate with fans.

I'm a fan!

With the heat wave that has suddenly come upon us (today excluded), I have been on the hunt for a cool looking (not just feeling) fan. Is it really too much to ask to have your fan compliment the design of the rest of your house?

While perusing Canadian House and Home online, I came across this beauty! The Otto fan will cool you off in style and runs on a mere 45 watts, using considerably less energy than an air conditioner. Designed by Carlo Borer, a renowned Swiss designer, this fan is whisper-quiet and runs on 3 fun speeds: breeze, wind and gale!

Not every basket has to be made of wicker.

When was the last time you sat down to enjoy a picnic? That's exactly what Boxsal was thinking when they designed these super-cool, eco-friendly picnic boxes. Each Boxsal has enough room to pack a bottle of wine, some hors 'd ouvres, snacks, sandwiches and more. They also come with fully compostable utensils, plates, cups and napkins. I just can't get over how awesome and fashionable their designs are. Sorry, wicker, it was fun while it lasted!

Bridal Rug Sofa

To elaborate on the black and white theme of my last post, check out this stunning sofa from Wisteria. It is upholstered in a black and white Moroccan bridal rug and has a fabulous shape. I think it would look great mixed with more modern furniture and perhaps a vase of bright yellow flowers for pop.

SchappacherWhite

I love me some white! If you have been to my house you know this. Throw in some black and you have one of today's it colour combinations. SchappacherWhiteLtd., a New York based firm seems to know a thing or two about beautiful architecture and interior design. Check out these photos of a 1904 farm house renovation in Shelter Island, NY. Drool!
