This puts the 'board' in headboard.

We have decided that our second bedroom will boast a beautiful barn board style headboard. A couple of days ago we did a drive by at a used building supplies yard to scout out some aged wood with a weathered grey look. We found some cedar planks that would work perfectly but decided not to cart them all the way home from the Island. I'm sure we will be able to find something just as good here.

This look makes my heart skip a beat. The brown, white and grey of the bedding is a warm but low key balance to the colour and texture variation on the wall. It may be a bit much for the typical bedroom, but why not go bold in a guest bedroom where no one will be living with it for long periods of time? It's like the powder room principal - go bold because this small and infrequently used space can handle the excitement.

Out with the In

I love an outdoor space that mimics the indoors. Out in the Hamptons, interior designer Eric Hughs installed a terrace with a concrete fireplace surrounded by couches and a coffee table. With this setup, I don't think I would ever go inside.

Lyrics to remember...

We are on our way
It might be a hard way
But as long as I'm with you
Yes we are on our way
And it might be in harm's way
But as long as I'm with you

At the end of a long, long day
There is not much more to say then love
I'm so glad I met you

~ I'm So Glad - Royal Wood

Happy Friday everyone!

I'm on board.

I am all over nautical chic right now. From clothes to accessories to interiors, I think the nautical look is so fresh and summery. Striped fabrics, boating memorabilia, and a classic pattern of red, white and blue can go along way to creating a sailors haven right at home.

Bunch of Pillows...

I love this collection of pillows! So many different patterns but they look great together.

The Decorated Office

I have always wanted to have a really elegant and inspiring place to work. My current den is a bit of a dumping ground for things without a home at this point, but when we get around to doing something with it I wouldn't mind it looking something like this. There is nothing corporate feeling about this home workspace!

Tieve Tara loves...

...these aprons from Anthropologie! They are so cute. My favourite is the Tea and Crumpets apron, and how about the Strawberry Spots kids apron for your sidekick?

NYC Loft

Elle Magazine recently featured photos of Sheryl Crow's New York City loft. Crow's compact urban nest includes a collection of treasures she has gathered from yard sales and junk shops across the country. It was a specific piece - an enourmous HOTEL sign purchased from Sonrisa Furniture, an architectural salvage stora in LA - that inspired the design of this loft Crow purchased in 1998. She sure does make junk look good!

White Cottages

I think my love for white has been made quite apparent already but I refuse to quit oooing and ahhhing over these crisp rooms. White may seem like an unlikely colour choice for a holiday home, but as these spaces prove, it's the perfect backdrop for stylish summer living. These photos from Canadian House and Home make me really want a cottage...I guess a job will have to come first!

PS - I especially love the use of mismatching chairs at the dining room table!

DIY - I nearly dyed

Canvas sneakers are comfy and cool, but you may not find them in the colours you want. Check out this DIY from marthastewart.com and put a spring in your step by creating your own shade of sneakers with fabric dye. Looks like fun to me!

The Future Mapping Company

The Future Mapping Company has revolutionised the traditional wall map. Having been both inspired by his background in colour-forecasting and simultaneously dulled by the pastel shades of coloured wall maps, Marcus Kirby set out to combine the alluring integrity of maps with his other love - design. These maps demand central wall hanging space. I love their use of colour and love the idea of using a modern, forward looking map in a contemporary space.

d a c e

Dace Moore is a local BC girl who launched her clothing line d a c e in Spring 2002. From the start of Dace's career her designs have been featured in group shows and applauded by the media, but with the growing success of her company, she is now gaining international attention. I love the sense of classic femininity her designs convey. These are a few of my favourite looks. I especially love the Carel shorts.

Blik

A friend of mine directed me to Blik, a company based out of sunny Venice, CA and the world's first removable wall graphics company. Looking to end the tyranny of limited options for wall coverings (paint or wallpaper), Scott Flora and Jerinne Neils decided to do something about it. That something was Blik.

They have hundreds of different wall graphics but have recently launched three new graphics from gaming legend, Atari and an eCity wall graphic from the "Godfathers of Pixel", eBoy. Atari presents Asteroids, Centipede and Pong and eBoy brings Tokyo eCity straight to your walls. The brands share a pixelated sense of fun that is sure to resonate with fans.

I'm a fan!

With the heat wave that has suddenly come upon us (today excluded), I have been on the hunt for a cool looking (not just feeling) fan. Is it really too much to ask to have your fan compliment the design of the rest of your house?

While perusing Canadian House and Home online, I came across this beauty! The Otto fan will cool you off in style and runs on a mere 45 watts, using considerably less energy than an air conditioner. Designed by Carlo Borer, a renowned Swiss designer, this fan is whisper-quiet and runs on 3 fun speeds: breeze, wind and gale!

Not every basket has to be made of wicker.

When was the last time you sat down to enjoy a picnic? That's exactly what Boxsal was thinking when they designed these super-cool, eco-friendly picnic boxes. Each Boxsal has enough room to pack a bottle of wine, some hors 'd ouvres, snacks, sandwiches and more. They also come with fully compostable utensils, plates, cups and napkins. I just can't get over how awesome and fashionable their designs are. Sorry, wicker, it was fun while it lasted!

Bridal Rug Sofa

To elaborate on the black and white theme of my last post, check out this stunning sofa from Wisteria. It is upholstered in a black and white Moroccan bridal rug and has a fabulous shape. I think it would look great mixed with more modern furniture and perhaps a vase of bright yellow flowers for pop.

SchappacherWhite

I love me some white! If you have been to my house you know this. Throw in some black and you have one of today's it colour combinations. SchappacherWhiteLtd., a New York based firm seems to know a thing or two about beautiful architecture and interior design. Check out these photos of a 1904 farm house renovation in Shelter Island, NY. Drool!
